The latest release of Microsoft's mapping product contains a great feature which combines bird's eye views with mapping data. In this example, we can see how the photograph is augmented with the map data. But notice how where the buildings occlude the streets, the map data is presented in a dashed format. This is the fun part - using building geometry with photographic and mapping data to provide a rich contextual visualization.
Congratulations to Pragyan and the rest of the team.
I am wondering how they did this? They must have some height information on the various buildings - to make the on/off stitching that accurate? Or is it really just exceptionally well approximated?
