I heard on NPR this morning (how many posts out there start with that?) that a big reason the Gonzales story refuses to go away is due to the continued discussion on line/in the blogosphere. This wasn't, as far as I know, a quantified claim, but a bit of punditary, however it is certainly appealing (and feels true).
The story of the dismissal of the 8 U.S. Attorneys was pushed pushed pushed by Josh Marshall of the very meticulous and non-polemical TalkingPointsMemo.com. He pushed it when others tried to blow it off, and as a result the Washington correspondent of Newsweek magazine included a brief item crediting Marshall with a persistence that he himself had not thought worthwhile.
