I'd go for things were popularity have some predictive power, for instance in elections.

Andrew, Have a look at BlogPulse (a site that originated with Intelliseek - now BuzzMetrics). BlogPulse allows users to create trend graphs. Internally at BuzzMetrics, we have access to more of this type of data.

Matthew: Amazing stuff...I'm intrigued.
Can 14 million really be all of the Blogosphere? Technorati claims 55 million?
And over time wouldn't the massive increase in the number of blogs skew the trend? Say if for example things were doubling every year?
