Inspired by some of the more artistic members of the Visual Complexity site, I've been playing around with some of the rendering parameters in the software I use to map the blogosphere. The results are somewhat whimsical - though the layout of the blogs is exactly the same as other hyperbolic projections I've posted here. Below are two new images of BoingBoing (first) and MichelleMalkin.
What I like about the BoingBoing image is the glow of the blogosphere's core over the south east horizon.
The graph of the blogosphere is found by looking for reciprocal links between blogs. The largest connected component from this graph is then taken as the core. The graph is laid out using a straightforward force based layout. This is then projected into hyperbolic space to produce the fish-eye lens appearance (which allows for greater detail to be displayed in the region around a node while the global context is maintained). When a node is selected, it is given a cyan halo. All the nodes within one hop are also given a halo.
I will continue to visit enjoyed the reading thanks
