I've been wanting to write something insightful about mashups for a while. Perhaps an analogy with similar tech/user collisions from days of yore, or a biological analogy of hosts and parasites. I didn't really get anywhere. However, Richard MacManus comes to the rescue [via James Fee]:
In the mashup ecosystem, let's get one thing straight. The data owner is ultimately in control, because a mashup developer is reliant on data owners to keep the supply of data flowing.
I believe that. I also think that mashups are like games on the Playstation platform - there are some really great ones, but there is a mass of bad stuff out there.
