When I first heard about TailRank, I thought that it was going to be an application that drew attention to the tail, rather than one which used the tail to rank other content. It turned out that TailRank really is a neat site, but I wonder if it could be turned around: partition the blogosphere into the head and tail, and then use links from the head only to rank posts or blogs in the tail.
Hm..... if you do have metrics on the head and the tail and if a link from the head *reaches* into the tail that could be really interesting. You might want to use that to boost relevance on that link over a normal head->head link. Scoble linking to Om for example.
I think tour existing 'tail' functionality will really start to shine once I get our personalization filter complete in a week or so...
It was interesting to see how people would react to our original personalization metric. I don't think they grok'd it and I had to simplify how I was going to approach things.
Onward!
