Next year we will be holding the third Workshop on Weblogging Ecosystems in conjunction with the International Conference on the World Wide Web - in Edinburgh. The last two workshops have been a lot of fun and the next one holds even more promise as we are making a large corpus of blog data available.
Such a corpus has clear research benefits - I see two major ones:
- Allows for researchers to concentrate on the core problems and algorithms rather than replicating data acquisition solutions.
- Allows for a wide range of research to be carried out on the same data set, thus permitting controlled comparison of solutions to individual problems as well as many views of the same events and phenomena.
I'm really excited about this workshop, not just because of good past experiences, or because of the data, but also because it is in Edinburgh, very close to where I grew up, and where I lived as a student.
