GigaOM and Beyond Searchboth post some interesting comments on NLP enabled search applications. One aspect of the debate that many pundits seem to miss is the current role of answer sites (like Yahoo! Answers) and what they tell us about users. While it is in-the-know to talk about the search spaces 2.Foo words per search stats, when the user expects a direct answer, he will, of course, type the question in natural language.
In a fit of reverse testing, I posted two questions on Yahoo! Answers 'mexico capital' and 'starbucks redmond'. I wonder if there are any pidgins out there...
[I got an answer for the later in 4 minutes - 'What about it?']
