Data and Community

Jeffrey Heer et al's work may well be familiar to readers of this blog. I've been pointed to this paper almost simultaneously by two colleagues so I thought I should pass this on. I've not read the paper, but the video(linked to from the bottom of the page) makes for a very clear explanation.

Seems to be exactly the same as the baby name wizard, just different data (http://babynamewizard.com/namevoyager/lnv0105.html)

Alex: Did you watch the actual video? The important part is not how the information is visualized, but how the data can be annotated, commented upon, and shared with others in intelligent ways. It's brilliant.

Very cool. One next step, of course, is the ability to index/search/organize/filter/share/acl/group/etc comments; this would be a required part of any scaling of this system.
