Technorati WTF

Briefly, Technorati has released a new service - WTF - which appears to be a sort of cross between user created content/answers and a vote based recommendation system. The idea is that users enter topics (like the subject of a post) and content (like the body of a post) on something that they believe is hot. Other users can then promote these posts by adding 'blurbs.' What I think is really happening here is this: Technorati would like to increase its user base. In the online world, a big user base is a huge asset. To join in the WTF fun, you need to sign up with Technorati.

Personally, I'm not getting a clear signal on what this is, who it is for and if it will be successful. I mean, WTF? The system looks like a community blog.

Comments

I think it's easiest to think about WTF as a kind of Urban Dictionary (urbandictionary.com), only for popular search terms rather than popular lingo. (Urban Dictionary even has voting!)

(Of course, people can write WTFs about any topic, but you'll see that each additional blurb becomes an equal sibling. In that way it doesn't follow the threaded commenting models of Digg or SlashDot at all.)
